It’s almost inconceivable to me that there’s a dishwasher that doesn’t stand a little water under the filter. The reason is simply that filter systems are pretty old. There’s a high probability that the filter will not be in place when the dishwasher is first installed, but by the time the dishwasher is installed, the filter has probably already been replaced.
And that is why dishwasher standing water can happen. Not only can the filter be in place, but the water pressure and the temperature is also set to make the filter water too hot and therefore prevent it from fitting properly.
This is one of those situations where the water pressure can be set so high that it can’t flow through the filter at all. Or maybe too low. Or way too high. Either way the water will not flow at all.
That’s why you should always keep the pressure right on the filter. Water pressure in any dishwasher can be too high as well.
The fact of the matter is that you don’t need to do anything special to your dishwasher to have it work properly. I’d assume that if you have a filter, you have the pressure right on the filter to keep it in place. If you have a pressure sensor, you need to be able to adjust the pressure accordingly.
It’s hard to know which is worse though, as the filter or the pressure sensor. The pressure sensor will work fine with an appropriate amount of water in the filter, but if you have too much water in your filter, it’s just too easy for the sensor to fall out of the water-filled housing.
I think it is best to avoid getting dirty filters and pressure sensors. A pressure sensor can be replaced with a sensor with a metal clip that can be tightened into place. Even though its a pressure sensor, I still think to avoid it if possible. The filter is a mess.
Sometimes it is difficult to clean the filters. They are usually the same design as ours. If you have a high-strength water supply, you can probably clean the filter with a garden hose. But if you have a low-strength water supply, you will probably have to replace the filter. In any case, you can use a pressure canister instead of replacing the filter. It is a little more complicated than a hose and requires a little more effort, but it is definitely worth the effort.
