I like to think of house sediment as a “filter” that cleans our homes of excess soil and debris. It is one of those things that we can’t avoid. We can’t ignore it. We can’t expect the house to be perfect or clean every day. But we can take charge of it. We can be diligent about clearing it every once in awhile.
Well, house sediment is the natural byproducts of the soil we live in. It is the residue of all the things that we do or don’t remove from the house. Sometimes the dirt build up in the corners of the house and simply never gets cleaned. But it can be a very powerful thing. In the past, I’ve often been asked to explain what I do when I am tasked with clearing it.
I have a very quick and simple answer. I put my fingers in the soil and scrub it to remove all particles, bacteria, fungi and other stuff. Then I wash the dirt and the dirt-removed soil. Next, I lay down a layer of sand and water. Then I add some salt and a little bit of vinegar to make it nice and clean again. I can do this a few times a week and it will keep it clean for a while.
I’m not sure why people are asking about this, but I’ve put this on my bucket list. I’ve been thinking a lot about it and I’m very excited to finally get to try it out.
For those of you who are fans of dirtier, more aggressive, self-cleaning methods, the house sediment filter could be for you. It’s a method that goes back to the early 1900s and the idea is that it’s an effective way to clean a house without any mess. Basically it’s a large bucket, filled with sand, water, and a little bit of vinegar. The bucket is then placed in the house and it is left to sit.
Basically when the bucket is left in the house, you have to keep an eye on it because the sand and water will start to build up. Once that happens, you have to let the bucket sit for hours. This will eventually start to create a layer of dirt that will quickly grow back into a film. The goal is to break this film down into smaller particles before the next time you go to clean the house.
Of course, house sediment filters are nothing new. They’ve been around for thousands of years (literally). But, these days, you can find them on the market in large quantities and for a lot less money than you’d pay for a house sediment filter.
It is a very old trick to get your house sediment to stay in solution for longer than usual. You can buy one that just adds water to the bucket so that in a week you get a film that will work for a year. You can also find inexpensive filters that you can use on a regular basis. And, if your house is in a big city, you can even just run the water through them.
But what about the cost? Well, you can find them on the market for around $20. They work fine for most people, but you can use them for a fraction of the cost and still be very effective.
So, basically you buy a bucket of sediment and fill it up with water. Then you add another one of the same bucket and so on. It’s a bit of a mess and the water should be cloudy, but that’s only because it’s cloudy water. It doesn’t taste bad, and it’s easy to keep up with, so long as you use the filter.
