Membrane filters are common, but you might be surprised to find out that you can make yours yourself, and that it’s very easy. You just need a piece of plastic pipe, some rubber bands, a water hose, some silicone gaskets, and a few other small pieces of junk you can pick up at the local hardware store.

The thinner the filter, the better, but you’ll need to make other adjustments to the filter as well. The easiest way to do this is to cut it into two pieces and glue them together. This works well, but you can also use a glue gun to make the filter more permanent.
