This is one of our favorite water filters, and it’s pretty inexpensive. The 20 inch is the standard size that most water filters use, but when I am looking for something new it’s something I know I’ll use.
For our water filter, we went to the big blue line. Like most of the water filters on the market, it comes with a removable plastic bag, and we love how the bag seals up. We have no idea how they were able to make this one, because we don’t want to break it. I know it’s a little bit of a gimmick, but it’s worth it and it does a great job of filtering the water (and preventing it from being a bit too thick).
To make the filter, you need a piece of cardboard or corrugated plastic, a hole about an inch in diameter, some water, and a few drops of vinegar. Apply the cardboard to the hole, and fill it with the water. Now use the water to wash the cardboard out, and you’ve got yourself a filter.
It’s a little gimmicky, but I’ll take a piece of plastic over a cardboard filter any day. It’s worth it because it lasts for a very long time, even if you do put it in the dishwasher.
But what this all boils down to is that you can remove the filter if you want, which means you can remove the “filtering” part from the water. But you have to take the water out before you can filter it, which means you have to put the filters in the water. Thats why I like it best when its made from plastic. Its cheaper and lasts longer than cardboard.
If you dont do the filter thing you have to put the water in the dishwasher, which means that the plastic filter will eventually be in the water. To remove the plastic filter you have to take it out of the dishwasher, which means you have to take it out of the water. So you might as well just get rid of the plastic filter and just use plastic water filters that just sit in the water.
Plastic filters are not something I personally would even consider. Some people are just really lazy about them, and the only reason I buy one is because I feel like it helps me stay hydrated without having to worry about getting my water bottles full of plastic. I have many friends who would much rather use a plastic water bottle than a plastic filter, but I digress– if you can’t use plastic water filters or are lazy about them, get plastic water filters.
Plastic filters are cheap, easy to clean, and do a fantastic job of filtering out the impurities, as well as keeping the water pure. But I don’t want to put all of my eggs into one plastic basket. So I’m going to go with a big blue 20 inch filter.
I love big blue filters because the holes in them allow water to flow out of the water bottle and is good for filtering out bacteria/vomit. But if you dont like plastic, then go with a plastic bottle, but dont pay extra for the extra features.
If you want to use a plastic filter, I recommend a 5 gallon water bottle. If you buy a 20 inch filter from a big box store, then you can also buy a smaller filter for a few cents. This is because the bigger filters tend to be a little bigger, and they can get in the way of your water bottle.
